Summary of Contents

Letter 1
Consequences If Christ Be Not God

Then it follows: That he was not the promised Messiah, but a deceiver and blasphemer. That the Jews were bound to put him to death. That the ceremonial law is not abrogated, and no atonement made. That all who have worshiped Christ have been idolaters. That into this fatal error they were led by believing the sacred Scriptures.

Letter 2
Continuation of the Subject

If Christ be not God, then the following Scriptures in particular must lead to idolatry, viz. John 17:6; 2 Cor. 8:9; Gal. 1:1; 4:4,5; Phil. 2:5-11; Heb. 1:1-3.

Letter 3
Consequences If Christ Be Truly God

Then it appears that God is love. That love and obedience to God, and love and compassion to men, are illustrated and enforced by the strongest motives. That sin is an abomination, and most hateful to God. That to honor and worship the Son, and to believe in him, is most reasonable and just. That the condition of those who do not acknowledge him as the true God must be most awful. That the true penitent has the greatest encouragement to trust in Christ for salvation. That the state of true believers is most safe and blessed. And that all efforts to promote the cause of Christ must ultimately succeed.

Letter 4
The Deity of the Holy Ghost

All the divine criteria are ascribed to him. He is called God and Jehovah. He possesses all the incommunicable attributes. Such as eternity, unchangeableness, omnipresence, omniscience, omnipotence. Divine attributes, such as creation, the formation of the human nature of Christ; the new creation.
